2024 Gamester - Pinkney Memorial Cup
In Honour of Two Outstanding Individuals in Building Youth Talent in Atlantic Canada
Byron Gamester was a grassroots horseman involved for five decades as an owner, trainer, driver, and breeder. A strong supporter of youth involvement in our industry, Byron provided numerous young people with their initial opportunities to drive in the PEI Matinee Track Program.
Phil Pinkney of Lower Onslow, N.S. was a successful horseman, racking up numerous trophies, including Canada’s Top Horseman, as well as over $2.3 million in career earnings as a driver and $1 million more as a trainer.
Meet The 2024 Teams
Northside Downs August 3rd, 2024
Team Pinkney competed in 2 races at Northside Downs on August 3rd to determine who will advance to the Gamester Pinkney Memorial Cup Final on August 27th at Summerside Raceway. Keith Legge earned the title of Top Point Earning Driver with 2 runner-up finishes, totaling 24 points. In a tie for 2nd place and advancing to the final along with Keith Legge are Brett Leblanc and Ryder Rennison, each earning 21 points. In a tie for the final position with 11 points each were Monica Sutherland and Keigan Madden who both agreed to hold a draw to determine who would advance. Keigan Madden’s name was drawn and he will advance to the final.

Summerside Raceway August 20th, 2024
Team Gamester competed in 2 races at Summerside Raceway on August 20th to determine who will advance to the Gamester Pinkney Memorial Cup final taking place the following week on August 27th at Summerside Raceway. Brady Sweet and Jaycob Sweet finished in a tie for the top spot after each earning a win and a second place finish, totaling 27 points a piece. They will both advance to the final along with 3rd place finisher Brett Clow (14 pts), and 4th place finisher Kyle DesRoche (13 pts).

Final - Summerside Raceway August 27th, 2024
JJ Patrick and driver Brady Sweet went to the lead in the Tuesday evening championship and went through splits of :29.1, :59.2, 1:29 and 1:59.2 to win by a length over La Vie En Rose ( Kyle Desroche) while Bohannon (Jaycob Sweet) finished third. Rick Armstrong trains and co-owns JJ Patrick for co-owner Marc Gallant of Summerside. The rest of the participants finished as follows: Western Phil, 4th (Keith Legge), Bump In The Road, 5th (Brett LeBlanc), Bold N Bad, 6th (Brett Clow), Late Night Dealer, 7th (Keigan Madden), and Top Of Her Trade, 8th (Ryder Rennison). Brady Sweet was awarded with the Gamester Pinkney Memorial Cup Plaque as well as a certificate for a custom bike painting courtesy of Wicked Powder Coating. All participants were later presented with sweaters sponsored by Red Shores.
