PEISBA Breeders Symposium
The PEI Standardbred Breeders Association (PEISBA) is inviting Island Standardbred breeders to participate in an upcoming educational symposium designed to support excellence in breeding operations across Prince Edward Island. The event will bring together respected industry professionals to share practical knowledge and proven approaches in breeding management, nutrition, yearling development, and sale preparation.
The symposium will take place on July 27th, 2026, at the Charlottetown Farm Centre. Featured presenters include Jesse Belore of Princeton Farms, Pat Woods of Winbak Farm of Canada, and Dr. Martha Mellish of the Atlantic Veterinary College, each of whom will contribute expertise drawn from extensive experience in the Standardbred industry.
Mr. Belore and Mr. Woods will provide insight into the daily operations of their respective breeding farms, with a focus on breeding and foaling practices, nutritional management, and the preparation of yearlings for sale. Dr. Mellish will present on the nutritional requirements of yearlings, including the development of feeding programs that support healthy growth and performance.
Following the symposium, Mr. Belore and Mr. Woods will be available from July 28th through August 1st to conduct on-farm visits for interested breeders. These visits are intended to provide constructive feedback on private breeding operations, identify strengths, and offer practical recommendations that support the adoption of best practices and the development of high-quality yearlings.
A minimum of 15 breeders is required for the symposium to proceed. Interested breeders are encouraged to complete the form below. For additional information or assistance, please contact the PEI Harness Racing Industry Association at peracing@eastlink.ca.
